Age of Empires!

This is the cinematic trailer for "Age of Empires Online" in it's full splendour! I did the character design as well as some storyboards for it and I'm very pleased with the final result. It was produced at Axis Animation in Glasgow. Watch out for the "Priestess of Ra" at the very end. Damn, I wish they had given her more screen time :)

Hopefully I will post some of the designs soon.

Heinrich Kley!

There is a gorgeous Heinrich Kley exhibition at the Wilhelm-Busch-Museum in Hannover until August 21. If you have the chance: go and see it! They even have my favourite painting there "Die kruppschen Teufel". I just had to take a photo of that ...

Man's Favourite Sport!

I've been terribly neglecting my blog recently. Not that I don't have anything to show but this year has been quite busy so far. Hopefully I will post more regular again in the future. And no I haven't been fishing.

Space Ship N°1

Usually I'm much more into character design but I thought some visual development wouldn't harm. Here is the first of a series of spaceships. Fresh from the drawing desk.

BTW, only five days left until my trip to California. So if you are also at the CTN animation eXpo I'll see you there!

CTN animation eXpo

I will be attending the CTN animation eXpo in Burbank this year. It's hosted by Tina Price and the Creative Talent Network. And as far as I've been told last year was pretty amazing! It's my first trip to the USA and I'm already quite excited. I will stay in California for about two and a half weeks.

So if you are also going or are in the area drop me a line. I hope to see you there!

All Creatures Great and Small

This illustration is inspired by "All Creatures Great and Small" (which is known in Germany under the title "Der Doktor und das liebe Vieh"). It tells the story of the veterinarian James Herriot.

I still like the BBC series based on the books. It may be a little bit old-fashioned but it features a great cast and a lot of interesting side characters. Does anyone remember Tricky Woo?

It's much too hot. Even for the prickly bear armadillo.

Kangaroo!

A boxing kangaroo ready to beat the hell out of you. Completely analogue: copic markers and colored pencil.

Life Drawing!

Recently we practised life drawing at our Drawing Night. I hadn't done it in ages. And though I felt a bit rusty, it turned out to be a lot of fun! Everyone had to be the model in turn - sometimes armed with a broom or sombrero. These poses were between 3 and 5 minutes.

French Artist!

Something more cartoony.

Hair Metal!

Our last Bilderwumme Drawing Night's theme was: HEAVY METAL! So we took a trip down memory lane back to the 80s when hair was growing wild, guitar solos were hot and everybody was dreaming of becoming a rock star. Oh, and computers actually looked like breadboxes. And coincidentally t's a perfect match to my last post.

By the way, this guy looks a little bit like my first guitar teacher!

Switched on Mozart!

Happy New Year! Can i still say that? It's already February - the year is almost over. Well, I made a lot of New Year's resolutions, but somehow I must have forgotten to include "posting on my blog more often" on my list.

To celebrate that I'm posting an old hat. Or better an old wig. I made this picture some years ago when we started our group blog Die Bilderwumme. The sketch was pretty crappy. But I didn't give up and I still like what came out in the end. So put on ROCK ME AMADEUS and enjoy!

Merry Christmas to all of you!

Christmas Gnomes!

This is a page from my portfolio. Maybe someone remembers the dreamy gnome with the wishlist I posted some time ago. With christmas at hand I thought it's the right time to post some more of the bunch. I suppose they are quite busy at this time of the year.

Crazy Bird!

A crazy bird presumably from South America.

Dragon!

Our last Bilderwumme Drawing Night's theme was Knights & Dragons. At first I though it was a marvellous idea - far from it! I had not drawn a dragon in ages and I pretty struggled with it. So I've ben practising a little bit since. This is one of the better efforts.

Close to the Wind!

It's hard to deny, autumn is here. Or to be more precisely the windy, unpleasant and undeniably wet part of autumn. And the fact that it's already dark at tea-time doesn't make it any better. Well, at least you can't see the bad weather ...

This picture is a little bit older. (I did it in 2007 when a storm called Kyrill rolled over Germany and left quite some devastation behind!) I though it would make a good editorial illustration or maybe a book cover. So I added the nonsense typo.

By the way, the landscape looks exactly like in Ostfriesland where I come from!
